While we live in a world that is often marked by division, difference and sadly a lack of confidence, a sense of humour in work and home life, can make a huge difference - almost as huge as my head after the compliment I've just received! And if you can perform comedy on stage, even better - then we get to share in it.
Thanks to all the funny people who are always cheering me / us up.
And a huge shout out to Exeter Comedy Festival who drew people together to watch and enjoy work that encompassed so many comedy styles and topics.
Thrilled for my women’s comedy cohort who embraced stand up, comedy characters and some clowning. What was markedly noticeable was a big boost in confidence and I want to share this email from performer Joanna B.K. who wrote to me after the gig.
"Dear Maggie
I am mailing to thank you so very much for training me up to a standard where I can perform stand up comedy! I would never ever in a million years be able to do this without you. When I first came to your classes I did it as I very much enjoyed the creativity which I think was very much missing in my life. I didn’t ever imagine getting to a stage where I was able to stand up in front of people to actually perform it. I have been controlling my nerves all this week particularly last night before I went on! Thank you for your reassurance. I worry about forgetting my lines but I’m learning that the more I do it, the more comfortable I become! It evolves doesn’t it! It has really boosted my confidence and I am amazed that I am actually doing this! Thank you very much for everything you do.
With lots of love and very best wishes
Jo "
How wonderful is that! Jo came to my online courses in 2020, during lock down, and over the last two years has joined me in person to learn stand up. And wow, has she – like all the other trainees, grown in stand-up skills.
A big shout out to just a few of the comedians who have, and continue to train with me and are performing with verve: Dee Dee Studholme-Côte, Jane Quicke, Phil Blackmore, Christina G. Matt Bick, Wendy O’Shea, Eloise Dale, Molly Kinsey, Law Turley, Claude Le Crepe, Andy Bovey, Scott Jamieson, Fatma Sabet, Jo BK (more and more to come - watch this space).
Join me in July or September, if you need a comedy boost in your life.
As usual, a huge thanks for your support from Maggie and the team :)
