Comedy Matters in...

Health

'I honestly believe the 'Fake It' method of smiling or laughing can help improve mood.'

Making connections and supporting wellness is fundamental in the health profession. Maggie is working with the Royal College of General Practitioners. GPs and the trainers have benefitted from Maggie's talks and workshops on the application and understanding of humour for health.

A good sense of humour and understanding how to use it skillfully, can support health and communications. Maggie’s in person events with the Royal College of General Practitioner trainers, GPs and GP trainees online have led to ongoing interest.

Most of us will experience loneliness at some point in our lives, regardless of age, circumstance and background. Using humour as we age can not only help create warm bonds but also can be used to raise spirits. Maggie’s workshops and talks to Torbay’s Ageing Wellness community and laughter sessions to people with mental health problems at Torbay NHS Trust and Recovery Devon, helped bring much-needed smiles and connections into people’s lives.

Helping people recover from addiction and mental health problems is a keen interest of Maggie’s. Her weekly performance workshops to Plymouth Theatre Royal community theatre group Our Space helped raise confidence levels alongside developing communication skills.
