Fall back for extra chore time, and chortle time…

The clocks go back on Sunday. An extra hour in bed? Not for me.

More time to get up ridiculously early and do stuff? Now that sounds like a win…Except I’m trying to lean into the idea that I don’t always have to be busy. Easier said than done.

I can happily spend hours watching a TV series, though. Perhaps that’s ADHD hyperfocus. A good excuse – or a perfectly valid reason?

I spent a couple of days away this week, revisiting my beloved Lake District. Climbing Coniston Old Man (no naughty jokes, please), I spotted an old sign on a copper mine. For a fleeting moment, I thought it said my own name. How extraordinary! Sadly, it didn’t. Fame and fortune in a disused slate shed will have to wait.

Apparently, a Riving shed was a small stone or timber building used in the slate industry on the slopes of the Old Man of Coniston where quarried blocks of slate were hand-split ("rived") along their natural grain. Who knew?

Teaching and writing comedy train you to spot oddities everywhere, mine them for potential and see if there’s a nugget of comedy gold lurking between the cracks.

You can’t really switch this off. Which is probably a good thing, as humour is, on the whole, healthy.

But back to the clocks…

I don’t want an extra hour in bed. I want to get up, clean the cooker, hoover the house and strip the sealant from around the bath.

And yes, that is exactly what I’ll be doing. Please have a word with me.

Your turn! What will you do with your bonus hour? Sleep? Read? Go for a walk? Or, like me, turn it into a shift as an unpaid domestic?

Please share your thoughts on the clocks going back. Humour welcome, but a good rant will do nicely too.

Tonight, I will be digging for humour for my stand up comedy Mash-Up. Just a handful of tickets left. Or catch us next time on 27 December at Exeter Citygtae Hotel.

Or you can flex your comedy bones after Christmas on 27 December at a two-hour workshop 1-3pm (Citygate Hotel). Again, tickets are selling so grab a spot.

As usual, a huge thanks for your support from Maggie and the team :)
