Hurrah and Thank You!

Hurrah and Thank You!

Hurrah indeed! Time for Christmas Cracker Jokes. Here goes: Why did no one bid for Rudolph and Blitzen on Ebay? Because they were two deer... Reflecting on 2023, I’m thrilled to have met so many amazing, inspirational, and occasionally fearful folk. It’s a brave move to step into a comedy workshop. I’ve been there - to workshops where teachers have used comparisons of students, “Who is the funniest?”; told them they’re not funny, and killed off all belief that they could be funny. Hmmmm… Thank you comedians for coming week in week out and feeling fine about learning through experimenting, watching, reflecting, listening and adding in all advice, along the way. And then finishing with unique sets that showcase your persona and your unique material. Pleased and proud of you all. Thank you for all your feedback too. It helps me improve. Here’s an amazing testimonial from Jane, who is coming back for more in January. What did you like about the class? I loved the course. I immediately felt like I could learn and explore comedy because Maggie is so warm, kind, encouraging and very knowledgeable. She is a natural educator and I feel I learnt a lot about all aspects of stand up comedy and writing jokes. What will you take away? Huge enjoyment doing the course with my cohort. I’ve learnt new skills and grown in confidence to keep going with my comedy writing/performing. And thanks to the Citygate Hotel Exeter, and staff for providing us with a superb space to learn and perform. Thanks to all the audiences that have supported the comedians. The monthly Mash-Ups raised £175 for charity, St. Petrock's! If you want to give it a go, I am kicking off in January 2024. And I am looking to build a supportive group of women who want to build skills in comedy for confidence and solidarity. Join us for our first meet up on 8 January. And there's a clowning workshop coming in February. As usual, have a lovely week and thanks for your continued support Maggie and the team :)

I'll leave you with this: Q: Why was the clown always on his feet? A: He was a stand-up comedian.

Three clowns walk into a bar.

The bartender sighs, shakes his head, and says, “Parliament’s the next block over.”
