Attention to detail...
It is very hard to write funny and innovative stuff if you’re in a serious mood. But it is all in the detail.
Strive to be silly; childlike; the fool. Like this:
Think as a 6-7 year old. Dance badly. Never apologise.
We were seriously silly in the comedy class last night and it paid dividends.
Pandora: Everyone is so unique and fully formed. It's lovely thank you all. Liberating. Low stakes.
Raquel: That was so out of the box! Loved it.
Jane: To try to let yourself go crazy instead of "doing it right.”
One person ended up sitting in the sink - measuring out distance. Others slipped down an imaginary trap door and off screen.
I mean... you had to be there, but my point is, permission to be silly is really helpful in the process of creativity and especially comedy - but also as a vital coping mechanism.Want to experience becoming sillier, safely, and without judgment? Join me on Saturday 25 June or 10 September at Exeter Phoenix, or come to my next set of comedy classes.
I am also running comedy workshops for Doctors to support mental health. Health professionals and people interested in improving mental health are welcome to join. It’s a six week online course starting Monday 6 June. RCGP: Comedy Medicine - A Dose of Humour As usual, big thanks and love from Maggie and the Comedy Matters team :)
