(pic - not a flood - frozen Derwentwater in the Lake District)
After a honeymoon break in the lovely Lakes and Bonnie Scotland, I returned home to a full-scale bomb scare — a leftover WWII device, just casually waiting to be rediscovered in the murky waters of the marina. Welcome home.
This week brought biblical floods courtesy of Storm Chandra. With roads impassable, I reverted to delivering a pacey comedy workshop on Zoom. Honestly? Such a lot of fun. I missed being in the room, but the class enjoyed it, and I was reminded that comedy always finds a way — even through dodgy Wi-Fi. That said, I do love teaching in person.
Nearly all pain and tragedy can be turned into comedy (eventually). I particularly enjoyed a police report shared on social media thanking people for their patience and support during the floods, before politely — and humorously — critiquing those who ignored warning lights, red road-closure barriers, panda cars, and much more. Those loose cannons clearly fancied a career change to sailor and attempted to convert their Mazda MX-5 into a Sea Ray Sundancer motorboat. Apparently, a blizzard is due this weekend. Batten down the hatchbacks!
May see some of you tonight at the stand-up comedy Mash Up in Exeter? If you need cheering up, here’s the link. A cracking line-up — including, for the first time at a Mash Up, a female double act.
If you made a resolution in January and are sticking to it – bravo. One person wrote to me to say her resolution was to take a comedy class. She’s planning to join us soon. If you fancy learning stand-up comedy, get in touch. It’s a bit of a game changer…
Take care peeps.
As usual, a huge thanks for your support from Maggie and the team :)
Here are a few testimonials if you're thinking of joining us…
"Do it! Do it! Do it! I thought it would take me out of my comfort zone, but it’s taken me more into my comfort zone that I have ever been! Thank you!"
"It’s a release!"
"It’s a brilliant opportunity to laugh & bring some silly into your life, with a sense of freedom & safety to explore other perspectives."
