Comedians, Clowns, Climate, Kick Off!
Melting ice caps, rising sea levels - I'm ready (not!) Are you?...
Comedian Jo Brand has partnered up with Climate Science Breakthrough to apply humour to translate scientific info on the negative impact of climate.
She’s not the first to talk about this important topic. The late great Sean Locke touched on Global Warming in What’s The FXXking Point, back in 2020.
“I went to America – what a waste of time recycling my Marmite jar is... scrubbing out every little bit, when most Americans are driving cars that look like bungalows with windscreens. It feels a bit like me turning up to an earthquake – with a dustpan and brush!”
Brilliant! Here’s a link to his show if you want more:
I went to a climate change conference in 2019, at Plymouth University, where I met academic and comedian Dr Matt Winning who was performing climate change comedy, and I thought what a good idea to use humour to affect change.
So, I’m keen to hear from people interested in building comedy sets and opportunities for exploring how to make comedy open up conversations. Gallows humour? Ping me a message if this is you.
Comedy Matters and Exeter Citygate is hosting a stand up comedy evening on Thursday 28 December, in The Cellar Bar. A post Christmas pick-me-up - come if you can.
And on Monday 8 January, I’m hoping to start a revolution by holding a comedy workshop and meet up for any women interested in building their life skills and creating a supportive community to feel empowered to use humour in their personal or professional life.
And finally, stuck what to give this Christmas? Why give the gift of comedy? They’re ecards so hopefully are a small contribution to helping the planet (no dustpans needed here). Gift vouchers galore on my website. I know of several people who have gifted the next stand up workshop to their nearest and dearest. Trust me, it was a much-wanted gift and not a hint!
Oooooo, and my clowning workshops are coming back in 2024 – we need more fun and maybe they / you have ideas on improving our environment. A clown with good ideas? Yes!
Unbox your inner clown! Saturday 3rd February in Exmouth - booking links for all below.
