It's 2025 - What the FOG?

Writer's picture: Maggie IrvingMaggie Irving

I was feeling pretty tired, low...

... and much like a rubbery, deflated birthday balloon that hangs limply, undetected, behind the sofa for three weeks, with all its helium sucked out...

However, after a couple of days of self-care and a stroll in this misty, moisty morning's murk  – things suddenly felt a lot better and lifted, like the fog. I'd used the opportunity to compose an ad hoc silly song for a Facebook Live video. I guess I fog-ot my woes in the moment and I’m not misting them at all - Sorry! (I do quite like a bad pun!)

Laughter helps me – a lot – as does exercise and good food. I am doing Veggie January with an eye on low cholesterol and low sugar food. (When I went back to edit this post I actually read this as Viagra January! Must go to Specsavers!)  Let’s just say, I am not making it easy for myself because I love ALL the bad food. Jokes and healthy recipes gratefully received! Thank you also to the people who gave me some ‘holidays at home’ tips.

On an even jollier note, save the dates! Fab new workshop peeps, for 2025: What’s So Funny  Explore how you might craft some humour alongside the serious stuff on climate change. No comedy experience necessary or pressure to be funny.  A chance to learn some of the tricks of the comedy trade and to bring some much-needed humour into our lives, while opening conversations about the environment. We are at The Ocean on Exmouth seafront, 6-9pm, Wednesday 19 February. 18+.

Also, two fab nights of local comedy coming your way at The City Gate Hotel in Exeter: For people wanting a short and snappy workshop on crafting comedy, I’m running a ‘write yourself funny’ workshop on Thursday 30 January between 6–7.30pm in Exeter - suitable for beginners and regular comedians. This will be followed by the first stand up comedy Mash-Up of 2025 at 8-10pm. Get booking as the December Mash-Up sold out.

And to celebrate International Women’s Day, there is a Wimmin’s comedy night planned on Thursday 6 March at the City Gate Hotel Exeter. We kick off with an hour-long workshop – 6-7pm (women only), where you get to engage with some clowning therapy and comedy writing. And then, we have an all women line up of stand-up comedy - 7.30-10pm. Join us and help raise some funds for SAFE – Stop Abuse For Everyone.

Huge gratitude to all the people who help me, including YOU! Love you all.

As usual, a huge thanks for your support from Maggie and the team :)

Here is some of previous course participants' feedback if you're curious to join (new course dates coming soon):
