It's got legs!

Shout out ...

...to all wannabe and Up N Comin comedians. Booking open for next course in August – September. Courses last for six weeks and include a final showcase. Ta Da! Superb sets from the last group (as usual), with several of them doing a charity raising (Alzheimer's Society) follow-up gig in Exmouth. Thanks peeps. Like many comedy coaches, I focus on the comedians feeling relaxed and in control when they’re building up their sets. Many comment how nervous they are at the start and then BOOM! They’re fighting for the mic – well maybe not always – but the fear of failure; that it’s not finished or good enough – melts away as they take charge and find the pleasure of expressing their unique take on the world. So now we’re upping the stakes. There’s a new comedy night coming soon - Mash Up - at The Exeter City Gate Hotel. Performers, from the Comedy Matters courses, will get to share their original sets and new material. I was going to call the event “It’s Got Legs”, a phrase I use regularly when the material is ‘busting a groove’. Which do you prefer? Mash means to mix and we have a top mix of performance styles and comedians. Mash Up reminds me of one of my favourite TV series: The award winning M*A*S*H, one of the highest-rated shows in US TV history. I loved this 1970-80’s tragic/comedy drama (my favourite genre), developed by Larry Gelbart. Beautifully crafted writing and memorable characters, including Corporal Maxwell Klinger (Jamie Farr). His line on religion “I gave up being an atheist for Lent” is still spirit-raising... I could go on, but I’m sure you all recall M*A*S*H. Maybe see you at our Mash Up.
