A CLOWN WORKSHOP FOR EVERYONE!
I developed my clowning skills at a variety of places with several different teachers. Some of these teachers asked who was and wasn’t funny. Hmmm... Others provided the space to be mischievous, open, silly and free. Readers, I thrived.
I should like to think that the practice of comparing and pitching people against one another has faded away. Who knows? When people are asked to peel away their everyday mask, they need to feel safe – well at least in the beginning.
To clown, people have to understand the skills required – and modelling is needed – if they are to learn. Feedback that focuses upon WWW (What Went Well?) And EBI – (Even Better If?) are very productive questions in the process of learning.
Clowning is one of my favourite workshops – another being stand up. Sometimes, I mix stand up with clowning as one can support the other in terms of tapping into silliness, physical expression and being in the moment.
Great news! On Saturday 2nd March, I am back at The Exeter Phoenix to facilitate a fab clowning workshop, aimed at bringing out the inner clown - this is a state of being where a person is open, brave and beautifully ridiculous without worrying about how we look or feel. We challenge gender expectations and play with a variety of boundaries, whilst forever maintaining warm and trusting connections with an audience.
Alongside this aspect, we develop a personal journey into becoming a clown, which incorporates a different way of behaving and seeing the world – a kind of upside-down approach where right is wrong and wrong is right. Laughter is powerful and the disruptive clown can change the status quo.
No red noses. It is a rare chance to let go and understand how we might apply the skills of clowning to our personal and professional life.
Join us on this unforgettable and life changing journey, where the unsocialised self gets to express themselves.
As usual, a huge thanks for your support from Maggie and the team :)
